This programme is run on a totally secular basis and is intended for anyone wishing to improve their quality of life.

The programme was created in 1979 by Jon Kabat Zinn . It was offered by the Stress Reduction Clinic in the Medical Centre of the University of Massachusetts in the USA with a view to help people under stress, anxiety, pain and chronic diseases.

Jon Kabat Zinn is an Honorary Professorof Medecine of MIT (Masachusetts Institute of Technology). He is also a practitioner of yoga and meditation.

Jon Kabat Zinn says of MBSR : “The programme is designed to reduce suffering and increase well-being. MBSR is the launch pad of a new way of being in relation to things as they are”.

The MBSR programme stems from 2 main steams of influence: traditional meditative traditions of Buddhism (Vipassana) and Western medical science (participative medicine).

It is a preventive and educational approach which seeks to develop our ability to respond more effectively to stress, through intensive Mindfulness Meditation training and its integration into our everyday lives. It is, therefore, experiential, hands-on learning which calls on our own internal resources.

The MBSR programme is recognized by the international medical community.
It has been validated by scientific research and, in France, it is guided by the ADM (Association for the development of Mindfulness), which guarantees the
Transmission of Joh Kabat Zinn’s teaching.

The MBSR cycle takes 8 weeks :

        8 weekly group sessions :
        - two 3 hour sessions (the fist and the last)
        - six 2,5 hour sessions and
        - one day of silence

After an orientation session, you will fill in a questionnaire to check that your motivations, you state of health and the programme requirements are all in line. There will be individual interviews with one of the instructors.

The day of silence, set between the 6th and 7th week, prepares participants for the different practices before the end of the cycle. Each session is comprised of guided meditation practice, discussions and recommendations which will help you with your personal daily practice. These practices are a fertile ground for training oneself to concentrate deliberately, in the present moment, without judgement.

        Instructor

        Jeanne Vilain

MBSR Instructor, graduated from ADM (French representation of Brown Universty Mindfulness Centre) and Psychiatric Doctor.

        Instructor

        Corinne Créance

MBSR Instructor, graduated from ADM (French representation of Brown Universty Mindfulness Centre). Qualified with a State Certificate for Teaching Internal Martial Arts.

This programme is a serious undertaking on the part of the participants and attendance at all the sessions is required in order to benefit from the evolving process of the cycle and to set aside 45 minutes per day between sessions for personal practice. Documentation and audio guides will be provided to assist personal practice.
